Patio Or Hard Standing Preparation
The important work of any hard standing is the sub-base. We use road stone and scalpings to prepare all sub-bases. It is then compacted down to form a hard surface. Paving slabs are laid on a bed of concrete and all joints are cement jointed. Block paving is laid on a 50mm sand bed and compacted down. Levels and falls are determined by its relation to any damp course and measures will be taken to ensure water is taken away from dwellings.
Paving Set On A Full Bed Of Concrete
Paving set on a full bed of concrete with wet pointed jointing gives a solid looking weed free surface. No more rocking slabs or penetrating weeds.
Paved Area With Stone Chipping
Paving slabs set in concrete, jointed from a choice of stone coloured chippings will create a patio feature that can disperse water effectively and still serve as a patio area.
Patio With Full Step Features
Raised patio with a full step incorporated in its design is effectively created using round edged paving blocks for a less harsh finish and a safer environment.
Random Style Paving
Paving is laid in a set pattern style to break up the jointed lines. The riven faced patio stone gives the textured look of natural stone.
Butt Jointed Paving
Smooth faced butt jointed paving or flag stones is the simplest and most cost effective way of laying a patio. Laid on a sand/cement bed with a sub base underneath it can finish flush to the lawn or garden. This method has the advantage of lifting the slabs and reusing them at a later date.
Raised Patio Area
Raising your patio usually incorporates walling and steps which adds to the finished feature. Existing drain covers can be raised and sometimes lowered. On landscapes with many varying levels it is often a great opportunity to improve the practical lay out of the seating and walking area.
Stone Filled Water Traps
When all sides of a paved area is surrounded by walling then a stone filled water trap helps disperse surface water. Trapped water encourages moss growth so it is essential to create a patio design where water falls away from damp areas.
Paved Manhole Covers
Recessed drain covers are fitted to blend in with your new patio. These covers can be raised or lowered to meet the correct finished height.
Quality Paving Slabs
Riven faced stone tends to be better under foot than the smooth faced stone during the winter months. This popular paving stone has a good thickness to prevent cracking and only quality slabs are laid to ensure durability.
Block Paving In Contrasting Colours
There are many ways to edge a block paved area and using a contrasting colours will tie the new area to older surroundings effectively.
Block Paved Patio
There is a wide block paving range for colours and styles to create your patio. Block paving is on par in price to paving slabs. It has the advantage of sections easily changed should they get damaged or stained. Drain covers can blend in using recessed lids. Drainage will be discussed during your survey.

Transforming A Water Logged Garden
Turning a boggy area into a paved area is achievable. It is important to provide a way of carrying surface water to the storm drains. These next few pictures illustrate the stages taken and the finish result.
Curing A Water Logged Area - French Drain
Once the area is excavated, connection is made to the storm drain and a French Drain (long tube with holes in it) is laid in the new layout where the water will be directed to and will lay.
Patio Sub Base And Preperation Work
The new levels are then determined with the French Drains buried around the perimeter in a stone filled trench.
Gardens Without Water Laying Areas
The paved surface is then laid with the falls taking new water to the drained areas invisible to the eye. With decking building up the low level areas without compromising the damp course a level garden can be achieved.
